One of my best friends is working at Oxford University. Prior to her move to UK, she had been a profesional English Teacher for Zhejiang University for a couple of years. Recently we had a telephone conversation, she asked me, I” wondered, what does Peter ( her previous boy friend) mean by saying actually he was seeing somebody.”. Ehn, in my understanding it basically means dating. However, she didn’t think that her boy friend should be dating anyone while staying in the relationship with her. I was very much confused too.
However, I did some field research by the street and found out the expression has different meaning. Seeing indeed means dating someone which is more expressive idioms. In terms of how to define a date, it is hard to draw a line.
